Influence of Seismic Impacts on Foundation Beds Composed of Weak Soils
نویسنده
چکیده
In many seismically active regions of Central Asia, weak water-saturated sandy and silty-clayed soils are widely spread; industrial and civil facilities of various purposes are built and operated on them. The operating experience, macro-seismic examinations of earthquake consequences and the results of laboratory and field investigations show that the strength and deformational characteristics of soils under seismic impact deteriorate, which means they should be monitored and the soil-bed properties should be evaluated and calculated. In order to decrease the influence of seismic impacts and improve the seismic resistance of structures and facilities, the construction practice provides for a number of methods aimed at improvement of soils properties; pile foundations are also used for such purposes. The present article summarizes on the results of field experimental investigations of the influence of seismic loads simulated by seismic-explosive impacts on the state of natural and artificial basements, as well the influence of pile foundations on weak water-saturated loess soils.

Effects of the Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction on the Component Demand Modifier Factor of Concrete Gravity Beams based on ASCE 41-06 Standard
The aim of the present paper is to evaluate the influence of the Soil- Foundation- Structure Interaction (SFSI) effects on the component demand modifier factor of concrete gravity beams based on ASCE 41-06 standard. To this end, the beam on the nonlinear Winkler foundation approach is employed which is a simple and efficient method. At first, four sets of 3-, 6-, 10- and 15-storey concrete mome...

The geochemical composition of surface soils and potential bedrocks in Davarzan area has been investigated to determine soil origin and evaluate environmental aspects. Davarzan plain is composed of soils and deposits derived by weathering and transportation of different bedrocks from northern mountains. The bedrocks consist of Eocene (andesitic to basaltic lavas and volcano-sedimentary rocks co...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of dip angle direction of foundation Joint on nonlinear dynamic response of concrete gravity dams
The stability of a gravity dam on a jointed rock foundation might be endangered by weak joints that may be present in the fracture network of the bed rock. A review of the literature shows that there are few studies of the effect of a weak joint in the foundation rock on the stability of dams. This research uses the finite difference numerical modelling software ABAQUS to model a gravity dam, t...

متن کاملEvaluation of Seismic Behavior of Steel Moment Resisting Frames Considering Nonlinear Soil-structure Interaction
In structural analysis, the base of structures is usually assumed to be completely rigid. However, the combination of foundation and the subsurface soil, makes in fact a flexible-base for the soil-structure system. It is well-known that the structural responses can be significantly affected by incorporating the Soil-structure Interaction (SSI) effects. The aim of the present study is to provide...
